spring 2015 hair: subtle color, textured waves, shorter length

Friends, it is time. It is time to have an ever-important, life-altering conversation.

Yes, you guessed it. We need to talk about my hair.

Meaningful, right? But you have never steered me wrong before, whether it was bangs part one or bangs part two, or ombre, or more ombre, or a darker hue for winter. As seasons change, I will continue to crowd source my ‘do, thankyouverymuch.

So, let’s chat. I know what I want, but because I have a hard time relinquishing control, I’m nervous. As much as I’d love stylists extraordinaire Johnny Ramirez or Anh Co Tran to work their magic on my locks, I don’t think they’re coming to Iowa any time soon. Tear.

Because I feel the need to be annoying and overly specific to the hair stylist I choose to bear the burden of tackling my tresses, I want to narrow down my look to be as specific as possible.

Here’s what I’d like:

  • Cut: Shoulder length to collarbone. This will be a big departure to me — my hair is borderline Rapunzel status right now. I’m itching to say sayanora to split-ends. Also, this will mean less hair for my toddler to pull. Amen.
  • Color: Cover gray strands and lighten ends. Yes, if you’re keeping track, I’m 27 and unfortunately have grays! I like the look of balayage or ecaille (aka “tortoiseshell” in French). But, paying for color, highlights woven in, and a cut could be way out of my budget. Suggestions, please?
  • Style: Loose wavesI’m a fan of a some volume at the crown and I’ve really been wanting to try my hand at some sea-salt texturizing spray. Summer is on the horizon, and while I’m landlocked here in Iowa, I’m antsy for a beachy feel. (And a look I can get with an air-dry? Plus!)

So, what do you think? Am I onto something here, or way off? I’m the girl who emailed a couple friends with a subject line along the lines of URGENT IMPORTANT PLEASE READ and it was about my hair. So…let’s chat, ladies!
